"Where
the spirit of excellence lives on"
The Frank Collymore Hall is located in the heart of the bustling capital
city of Bridgetown, Barbados. It is a Performing Arts Facility named after
celebrated Barbadian "Man of the Arts" Frank Appleton Collymore (1893-1980),
poet, actor and teacher who devoted his life to assisting and encouraging
the development of the various art forms in Barbados. This centre is
designed to be the focal point for top rated music, dance and dramatic
presentations. At the entrance of the Hall stands a bronze bust of "Colly",
as he was affectionately known by Barbadians, which was created by renowned
local sculptor Karl Broodhagan.
The 500 seat Hall is used for musical recitals, dance , dramatic
presentations, conferences and lectures. It is part of the cultural
facilities of the Tom Adams Financial Complex which also includes the
Cathedral Plaza and the Grande Salle. As the home of the prestigious Sir
Winston Scott Memorial Lecture, the Frank Collymore Hall is a source of
education and inspiration for many. The Hall boasts a nine-foot Steinway
Orchestral Concert Grand Piano.
The Hall was opened in 1986 with an impressive week of cultural activities
billed as "City Nights" which covered areas of dance, gospel, calypso, folk,
the classics and jazz. It is also the home of the National Independence
Festival of Creative Arts (NIFCA) finals held in November each year.
